Business class to Rome

Rome is the busiest business class route between the US and Italy, and one of the few European capitals where an American carrier isn't the obvious choice: ITA Airways, Italy's flag carrier, flies nonstop to Rome from more US cities than any other single airline. Select Business Class is a travel agency that books published and unpublished business class and first class fares on all of them, for less than you'll find on the airline's site. Here's how a business class flight to Rome works from the US, which airlines fly, and what moves the fare.

Flights from the US to Rome

From Airlines Flight time Round trip
New York (JFK) Nonstop: ITA Airways, Delta, American Airlines (summer), United (from EWR) about 8h 30m from $2,190*
Los Angeles (LAX) Nonstop: ITA Airways about 11h 40m from $2,440*
Chicago (ORD) Nonstop: ITA Airways (summer), American Airlines (summer), United about 9h 10m from $2,425*
Miami (MIA) Nonstop: ITA Airways, American Airlines (summer) about 10h 5m from $2,054*
Denver (DEN) Nonstop: United (summer) about 10h 35m from $2,179*

Best business class airlines for flights to Rome from the USA

ITA Airways flies nonstop to Rome Fiumicino from New York JFK, Boston, Miami and Los Angeles year-round, from Washington, San Francisco and Houston for most of the year, and from Chicago in summer. It's the successor to Alitalia, so if you've been searching "Alitalia business class", this is the airline you mean. Its business cabin is a lie-flat seat with direct aisle access on the A330neo and A350 used on US routes, and it's usually the most competitive business class fare to Rome because ITA has the most seats to fill.

Delta One has direct flights from JFK, Atlanta, Boston, Detroit and Minneapolis year-round, and from Seattle in summer. American Flagship Business flies from Dallas and Philadelphia year-round, with JFK, Chicago, Miami and Charlotte in summer. United Polaris flies from Newark, Washington and Chicago year-round, plus Denver and San Francisco in summer. All three are lie-flat.

Norse Atlantic flies JFK to Rome in summer with a Premium cabin that reclines but isn't lie-flat. It's not business class, but it's often the cheapest way to fly to Rome with extra room, so our agents will mention it when it's the better deal. The other way to arrive in Rome refreshed on a budget is a premium economy seat on ITA or Delta, which we also quote.

Which airline is best depends on your departure city more than anything else. From New York you can choose between four. From Los Angeles it's ITA or nothing nonstop for most of the year. For business class travelers who fly transatlantic often, that choice usually comes down to schedule and seat rather than price, and we'll tell you which cabin you're getting before you book.

Popular business class routes to Rome: New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago

New York to Rome has the most choice and the most competitive business class fares: ITA and Delta from JFK year-round, American from JFK in summer, United from Newark, Norse from JFK in summer. That's up to five airlines on one route, which is why JFK to Rome business class is where an agent's contract fares make the biggest difference.

LAX to Rome is a twelve-hour flight, and ITA is the only airline flying it nonstop year-round. When ITA's business cabin is full or priced high, the alternative is a one-stop on Delta, United, American or a European carrier, and we quote both.

SFO to Rome is similar: ITA for most of the year, United in summer only. Miami to Rome has ITA year-round and American in summer. Chicago to Rome has United year-round, with ITA and American adding summer flights, so in winter Chicago travelers fly United or connect through New York, Newark or a European hub.

Boston, Washington, Atlanta, Dallas, Philadelphia, Houston, Detroit and Minneapolis all have their own nonstop business class flights to Rome from the USA. From anywhere else, we connect you through the nearest gateway on one ticket, and we can quote upgrades from economy to business on the long leg if you only want the flat bed for the overnight crossing.

Business class fares to Rome: how to find cheap business class flights and when to fly

Looking for cheap business class flights to Rome? A cheap business class to Rome fare is easier to find from New York than most people expect, and harder from the West Coast. Four things decide the price.

Season: best time to book business class tickets to Rome

Late May through September and the two weeks around Christmas are the most expensive. Late October through March, Christmas aside, is the cheapest, often 30–40% lower on the same airline and route, and Rome in November or February is a better city to arrive in than Rome in August anyway.

Nonstop or connecting flights

When the nonstop is full, a connection through a European hub on Lufthansa, Swiss, Air France, KLM or British Airways can be substantially cheaper, and sometimes gets you a better seat. From the West Coast especially, the one-stop option is often the smarter buy, and on a business trip the extra two hours on the return leg rarely matter. We price both.

Day of the week and length of stay

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday departures price lower than Friday and Sunday, and many discounted business class fares require a Saturday night stay, which most Rome trips include anyway.

Published or unpublished fares: where lower business class fares come from

Every airline flying to Rome, ITA included, sells part of its business class cabin through contract fares that never appear on its own website or on flight search engines. We book those unpublished fares, and that's how our clients save up to 70%* against the published price. It's also why an agency can offer better business class deals to Rome than the airline's own site, even on the same flight.

Business class or first class to Rome?

No airline flies a true first class cabin nonstop between the US and Rome. ITA, Delta, United and American all top out at business class on this route. First class to Rome means connecting through a hub that has it: British Airways via London, Lufthansa via Frankfurt or Munich, Swiss via Zurich. Fares are steep, but for a special trip we quote them, and the connection adds two to three hours.

How to book business class flights to Rome with Select Business Class

Send your dates through the form on this page, or call +1 (888) 424-4968. A dedicated agent calls you back with two or three options, usually within the hour, and if you're flying from the West Coast, that means the ITA nonstop and the best one-stop side by side. Choose one, complete the secure booking form, and the confirmation is typically in your inbox within the hour. The same agent handles changes and seat selection before and after the trip, 24/7 by phone.

Select Business Class is IATAN accredited, a registered Florida Seller of Travel, and rated 4.8 out of 5 on Trustpilot. Round-trip business class is the most common request, but we also book one-way tickets, business and first class combinations, and open-jaw itineraries, such as into Rome and home from Milan or Venice, which is the best way to see more of Italy without doubling back. For other Italian cities, see our page on business class flights to Italy.

Frequently asked questions

Can't find your answer? An agent picks up around the clock.

Which airlines fly nonstop business class to Rome from the US?

ITA Airways from eight US cities, Delta from six, American from six (mostly summer), United from five (Newark, Washington and Chicago year-round, Denver and San Francisco in summer), plus Norse Atlantic from JFK in summer. All land at Rome Fiumicino.

Is there a nonstop business class flight from LAX to Rome?

Yes, on ITA Airways, year-round. It's the only nonstop from Los Angeles, which is why it sells out. If it's full on your dates, we quote a one-stop flight to Rome instead.

How long is the flight to Rome in business class?

About 8 to 9 hours from the East Coast, 9 from Chicago, 10 to 11 from Texas, 12 from the West Coast. Most departures are overnight and land in the morning, so you arrive in Rome with the whole day ahead of you.

Which airports in Rome do business class flights use?

Fiumicino (FCO), 30 minutes from the center by the Leonardo Express train. Ciampino is Rome's second airport and has no flights from the US.

When is the cheapest time to fly business class to Rome?

Late October through March, outside the Christmas weeks. Summer is the most expensive, and the extra seasonal nonstops from Chicago, Miami and San Francisco only run then.

Can I fly first class to Rome?

Not nonstop, no airline offers it on this route. We can book first class via London, Frankfurt, Munich or Zurich if you want it.

How do I book a business or first-class flight?

Once the form with your preferred city pairs and travel dates is submitted, an agent will reach out to gather additional preferences and present the best available options. To secure a flight, simply complete the booking form sent via email.

Can I customize my flight preferences?

Absolutely! An agent can personalize your flight to match your preferences, including airlines, schedules, and routes. They can also assist with changes that are often difficult to handle alone, as well as help with seat selection, meal choices, and other special requests.

Are there any exclusive deals available?

Absolutely. That’s exactly what sets us apart. We have access to exclusive fares that aren’t available online, thanks to our special contracts with airlines. This allows us to offer highly competitive prices and unique deals you won’t find anywhere else.

How do I get assistance after booking a ticket?

Your dedicated agent and our 24/7 customer-care service will assist you with all the questions that you might have after booking a ticket.

How long does it take to receive flight confirmation?

On average, tickets are issued and sent to the client’s email within approximately one hour from the moment of the booking. Throughout the process, we provide regular updates to keep you informed and ensure peace of mind.

Can I make changes to my booking after it's confirmed?

Most business and first-class tickets offer a high level of flexibility. However, before completing the booking, your agent will inform you of any exchange, refund, or other applicable restrictions, if there are any.
